VAE Ranked 3rd on the Washington Technology 2011 Fast 50!
VAE is pleased to announce that it was ranked number three on the prestigious Washington Technology 2011 Fast 50 List. The Fast 50 rankings are developed through a process of nominations and data analysis. A call for nominations was sent out in early May with forms due by June 13. It was learned that this year over 100 applications were received.
VAE was founded in 1998 and based in Herndon, VA. The company is classified through the Small Business Administration (SBA) as an 8(a) Woman Owned Small Business focusing on Advanced Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions. Companies must submit five years of government contracting revenue, which is then calculated to determine a five-year Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR). The nominees are then ranked by that rate, not by overall revenue. VAE has experienced over 186% growth over the last five years.

VAE Sponsors FIRST LEGO Robotics
VAE, Inc. has signed up to sponsor Herndon Elementary School’s FIRST LEGO Robotics program. VAE supports the principles put forward by FIRST that robotics programs can be key differentiators in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education for our children. Robotics in education helps increase passion for science and technology by engaging students early with practical hands on science and math, preparing our children for the future. VAE is proud to coach and mentor this next generation of young minds and help inspire their excitement, creativity and love of science and engineering.
About FIRST LEGO Robotics
The non-profit organization, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), sponsors international robotics tournaments to engage students in scientific research and hands-on robotics design, with an emphasis on real-world problems.
Every September, FIRST LEGO League (FLL) releases a Challenge, which is based on a real-world scientific topic. Each Challenge has two parts: the Robot Game and the Project. Teams of up to ten children, with one adult coach, participate in the Challenge by programming an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game) and developing a solution to a problem they have identified (Project). Teams may then choose to attend an official tournament, hosted by one of our Operational Partners.
Past Challenges have been based on topics such as nanotechnology, climate, quality of life for the handicapped population, transportation and biomedical engineering. By designing our Challenges around such topics, participants are exposed to potential career paths within a chosen Challenge topic, in addition to solidifying the STEM principles that naturally come from participating in a robotics program. Team members also learn valuable life and employment skills which will benefit them no matter which career path they choose.
